Dr. Meena Zareh is presently a Fellow in Cardiology at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center (LAC+USC), which is jointly operated by the County of Los Angeles and Keck Medical Center of USC. In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court (Zareh v. County of Los Angeles, et al. Case No. BC644274), Dr. Zareh states that while she was a resident at LAC+USC, she was sexually assaulted by Dr. Guillermo Andres Cortes, who was then a Fellow in the program, a program in which his brother was a director. Dr. Zareh further states in her lawsuit that after she reported the assault, Defendants not only failed to take steps to ensure that she would not have further interactions with Dr. Cortes, but also engaged in repeated acts of retaliation against her both as an employee and a student. Dr. Zareh is represented by Leslie F. Levy and Sharon Vinick. Below is a link to a recent article in the LA Times. The article does not do justice to the retaliation experienced by Dr. Zareh at the hands of those she worked for (the County of Los Angeles and USC) and those responsible for her education (USC).
